Inductee
Information
J. Richard Seitz
Our first inductee in 2000 was the guy who got the ball rolling
in the first place, APBA founder J. Richard Seitz. For a detailed
account of his life, please visit our J. Richard
Seitz Memorial. What follows are some comments from people whose
lives were literally changed by Seitz and the game he created.

| "Dick
Seitz was a cultural icon. He was a guru, the true prophet of baseball.
Lancaster was his Mecca and we were his devoted followers, worshippers
of the altar of the red and white dice. APBA was a our drug - it
effected our education, our marriages, our entire lives. For we
were the cult of APBA." |

"Remembering Richard Seitz is to remember a man who saw the
rest of us before we saw ourselves. In the early APBA Journal and
APBA Innings, days, no one dared question the Oracle of Lancaster.
How did he know just where the "5" should go, and exactly how bad
a fielder Dick Stuart (we always hoped for a "2" at First Base)
was? We didn't know how he did it, but we knew that nobody else
could…every dice tosser computer gamer should spare a thought for
Dick Seitz who, like Roy Campanella, realized that a man needs to
have a little boy in him, too. Play ball!" |
