Greg
Ambrosius, Editor - Fantasy Sports Magazine
"Long before there was fantasy baseball, there was
APBA, the board game that brings baseball fans closer to
the game and closer to the top stars. Fans can experience
the suspense and drama of being a real big league manager
while learning about the tendencies of Major League players
- through every fun-filled game of APBA."
Mike
Payne, Managing Editor - Beckett Baseball
"Even in this day and age of video games touting detailed
graphics, APBA still delivers the best baseball game in
the world. I grew up playing APBA, and without a doubt the
game taught me as much or more about strategy and the nuances
of the game as any coach I ever had."
From
the Author's Preface in The Handbook for APBA Baseball Cards
by Edwin
Zack, Fall 1992
"After hesitantly mentioning the existence of a table-top
baseball game he played since a kid, Dan Armstrong exposed
me to the magic of the game of APBA baseball, and simultaneously
to the magic of a life-friendship.
Immediately,
I felt "the lure of the cards." I didn't understand,
nor could I read, the cards properly, but they were right.
Every encounter with the game brought insight and wonder.
The real Dodgers could play again - and I with them - and
all of us with Dan and his omnipresent Cardinals. The electricity
I remember as a kid is present again via the medium of cardboard....I
began to understand a little about APBA, more about baseball,
and a lot more about friendship."
Mario
Linares from California
"I've been a satisfied customer of yours for longer
than I can remember. I was introduced to your baseball board
game by my best friend when we were very young. Unfortunately
he is no longer with us, but the memories are refreshed
when ever your catalogs arrive in the mail. I thank APBA
for all the wonderful memories of baseball. Continued success
in the new century."
Bill
Fort from Texas
"I have been playing the game since I was first introduced
to it, in 1963. I have a rather large collection of cards.
As a longtime fan of the APBA baseball game, I enjoyed the
column by Dave Kindred in The Sporting News. Still love
the APBA Game."
Peter
Bushbacher from Illinois
"I would like to thank you for the hours of endless
fun and relaxation the game has given me over the years.
Now my son is enjoying the same thrills of APBA Baseball."
Michael
Cassarino
"I am thirty-two years old and have been subscribing
to The Sporting News since I was fourteen. This is the first
time I have sent an opinion about an article. I just wanted
to say I thought your article on APBA was great. My friends
and I played the game virtually every day. I can remember
us playing entire seasons on a weekend (with mom's yelling
at us to go to bed). I now own the computer version of the
game. Keep up the good work."
Bobby
Norris from Pennsylvania
"When I was a kid I loved your games. I had football,
baseball, basketball and golf! They were so cool. Talk about
watching time fly by with hours of loaded fun. I still have
two football games in mint condition. I keep them in my
game/music room. Still kept in the original brown shipping
cartons you protected them in when packaging them up. Well,
it's been 27 years since I was deep in the APBA dream. I'm
getting ready to retire from the U.S. Navy (20 years), and
it's about time to break these games back out! For a while
there, I thought ya'll were no longer around. Thanks for
the memories and the countless hours you kept me off the
streets and out of mischief. You company will always be
in my heart. My older brother thought I would never snap
out of it, he was right - - I still haven't."
George
Bonteski, Jr. from Louisiana
"I truly love APBA Baseball, as well as, baseball itself.
I have all the seasons necessary to complete my project
(collection) except 1944 which APBA still has to make. I
have been playing APBA since 1960. I can honestly say it
has become my lifetime hobby. I truly enjoy playing APBA
Baseball games. I play a game a day, American League only,
and complete a season in just under 2 years. So far Have
completed (12 seasons). I have kept detailed statistics
for batting, pitching, fielding (both lifetime and seasons).
To put it mildly, I love your game."
Robert
Mareneck from Oregon
"I would love to see some more historical development
of the card sets for the Pro Basketball game...or have fantasy
matches between the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls and the 1971-72
Lakers...to get our fix of your wonderful board simulation
games (ranking right up there with the APBA Baseball and
APBA Football in my mind. Anyway, thanks for listening and
I hope to see some new APBA Basketball Game products soon!"
Bruce
McClure from Connecticut
"I still remember opening the game for the first time.
I was on the back porch of my home in Northampton, MA in
the middle of a rather warm spell that summer of 1979. After
many days of cajoling and begging the mailman to hurry up
and get my package to me, it came. Excitedly tearing into
it, my senses were teased by that really great smell that
you got when you first opened the envelopes that the cards
resided in. And then feeling the crisp, clean white cards
in my hands was just the greatest. But laying them out,
playing a game and having all those players at my beck and
call was just incredible. I was hooked. All I could think
of was "you mean to tell me these major leaguers are going
to do what I tell them to do? Cool!" And you know what?
Twenty two years later...I still get the same thoughts when
I open the box."
Christian Hensel from Delaware
"I was given an APBA Baseball card set for the year
1999. My in-laws (Grandfather, Uncle, and Father) all speak
highly of your company and the game you made popular. I
hope to have countless hours of enjoyment with your game."
Jim
Cummins from Maryland
"In 1956 I purchased my first APBA Major League Baseball
Game for the then stunning sum of $10. That was a lot of
money for a newspaper boy to shell out, but it proved to
be an excellent investment. Every year since 1956, either
I or my brother ordered the APBA games, and enjoyment has
never been lessened. It is difficult to explain just how
much I was able to learn about math, organization and, of
course baseball, from my association with APBA. Naturally,
I was pleased to read your statement regarding your intent
to continue to produce cards and disks. I plan to put them
to use as long as I am able to do so. I also hope that many
young persons will be able to share my interesting and instructive
involvement with APBA Baseball. Depending on the individual
(and what doesn't?), it can be time well spent - - in many
different and rewarding ways."
Bob
Garcia from California
"I had the pleasure of talking to, I believe, the Senior
Director of Marketing at the National Show in Anaheim. What
a thrill. I use to play APBA growing up as a kid. I am currently
44, going on 10. My friends and I use to play with a buddies
brothers' game from the early 60's. That's how we got hooked.
We played for about 6 years, Baseball, Bowling and Football.
Well, I enjoyed the games at the show, I was impressed with
the kids games. My boy is seven and I am going to get him
started on a game I bought. Could you also let me know when
APBA caps are available. Thank You!!!!"
Stephen
Short from Arkansas
"Outstanding, after over fifty years you're still going
strong. My cousin and I used to play the baseball game all
the time...those were good times. Back then I seem to remember
that you also had football, golf, and basketball versions...do
you still carry these versions? I plan on introducing my
grandson to the baseball game in the future. Keep up the
good work!"
Bill
Stamper from Illinois
"I'm glad APBA has been part of my life from an entertainment
standpoint!"
