APBA fans came from all over North America to help us celebrate
APBA's 50th Anniversary this summer. The APBA 50th Anniversary
Convention and Tournament was the evening of August 3rd
through the early afternoon of August 5th. The weekend's events
took place in the legendary Hotel Brunswick (Ramada Inn) in
the heart of historic Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
The
convention featured an APBA Baseball Tournament with cash and
gift prizes, special raffles, discussion groups, and the opportunity
to meet the APBA "family" from all over the continent. Additionally,
there were special awards for the APBA player who traveled the
longest distance, Ken Hebert from Santa Monica, CA; the oldest
attendee Bill Sindelar, 75; and the youngest attendee Jordan
Flawd, age 10.
The
Convention also featured the first annual induction into the
APBA Hall of Fame.
Over the last year APBA honored it's founder J.
Richard Seitz as the first inductee into the Hall of Fame.
He is now joined by the Hall's first class
of 2001. APBA will now forever recognize President
George W. Bush, Roy Langhans, Ed Zack, Fritz Light, Scott
Lehotsky and Howard Ahlskog for their commitment and enthusiasm
to APBA and its passionate community.
The
highlight of the Convention was the APBA Baseball Tournament.
The top prize was $500! Over half the convention attendees competed,
with Top prize going to Paul Cunningham. Second place went to
Sam Adams, and no folks we're not talking beer; with third place
going to Joe Crowley.
Our
50th Anniversary Convention is the first of what will become
an annual event for APBA! Get a glimpse of the excitement and
passion within the APBA community!
Keep
posted for more convention news in the near future. If you attended
and have a great story to tell, please email
us and perhaps we'll post it for everyone to read and enjoy.
